The annual conference for paediatric dentists was themed around innovation, design and discovery; a perfect time to announce the Mini MCM intitative. Consultant paediatric dentist Urshla Devalia, our Clinical Lead for Mini MCM, gave an overview of our project highlighting training for medics, nurses and allied healthcare professionals on the importance of good oral hygiene for paediatric in-patients.
The training will include basic information on what is considered to be a healthy, or unhealthy mouth, and how this can be assessed by encouraging them to “lift the lip”. An oral health assessment tool in the care package for all patients will also be introduced as we aim to “put the mouth back into the body”.
